Remembering Robert Brustein

A Note from the Artistic Director on the Passing of Robert Brustein:

“I learned of the passing of Bob on Sunday morning… my alumni class of 1993 of the A.R.T. Institute keeps in touch regularly and a group email quickly filled with remembrances and gratitude for Bob, who was the fiery and doting father to so many of us. The roster of artists, artisans, and theater leaders he fostered at Yale and Harvard is truly beyond measure. His luminary protégés are the pinnacle of our profession, but there are countless others like me who have built a life of service to the art form and to our communities inspired by Bob’s vision. Indeed CSC was born out of the A.R.T., where Co-Founder Joan Moynagh and I met and where CSC’s first performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was developed. From the beginning, Bob was a tireless supporter and advocate, and he remained a loving mentor over the decades. CSC truly would not exist without Bob, so when you sit on the Boston Common next summer, take a moment to thank Bob for his passionate love and support of theater.”
