The Actor’s Craft and Tempest Talks: Provocative, enlightening, entertaining, that’s PlayOn@CSC! The pandemic has forced us to cancel in-person performances, but we’re taking this opportunity to give our artists, audiences, and members of the community a chance to experience our work in totally new ways.

PlayOn@CSC comprises three series of digital programs that feature actor performances, live conversations, film screenings, and much more, giving you a unique behind-the-scenes look at how productions are put together, how actors bring their characters to life, and how filmmakers have used Shakespeare’s stories as a springboard to realize their own visions. We hope you’ll join us!

The Actor’s Craft: Bringing a Character to Life

How does an actor take words on a page and bring a character to life on stage? Our first event in this series features Seth Gilliam, known to our audiences from his performances in the title role of CSC’s production of Othello in 2010 and in our Theater in the Rough production of Yasmina Reza’s Art in 2015–and to audiences everywhere for his roles in TV dramas like “The Wire” and “The Walking Dead.”

Shakespeare Reimagined: Bringing His Stories to the Screen

In partnership with the Coolidge Corner Theatre, we take an in-depth look at how filmmakers have reimagined Shakespeare’s timeless stories for today.

Tempest Talks: Looking Behind the Curtain

The creative team for CSC’s 2021 Shakespeare on the Common production of The Tempest give a unique behind-the-scenes look at how a production comes together.
