2021 Spark Scholarship Nomination Form

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company is actively seeking nominations for CSC’s Spark Scholarships for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) Actors for our 2021 summer Apprentice Program. This year we have five (5) full scholarships available (a $3000 value) for actors with a “spark and fuego” in their aptitude for, interest in, or angst for Shakespeare and performance. The CSC Apprentice Program is an intensive summer training program for college-aged actors who are actively pursuing a career in theatre. (Now running as an 8-week in person experience in Boston, MA or Fast Track/Hybrid virtual and in person experience 1-week online and 7 weeks in person) This training runs concurrently with CSC’s signature event, Free Shakespeare on the Boston Common, and culminates in a monologue & scene recital, as well as a professionally-directed Showcase production. This is a highly competitive program, filled with masterclasses and conversations with professionals, as well as the opportunity to earn up to 7 EMC points toward Actors’ Equity status for their work as Audience Ambassadors–and sometimes as understudies–for the production on the Common. For more information on the program, please visit our website commshakes.org/apprentice. We are seeking nominations for CSC’s Spark Scholarships from Professors, mentors, coaches, and other professionals in the field so that we might meet fantastic BIPOC Apprentice candidates from all across the country. Each recommender may nominate up to two (2) potential Apprentices. We encourage the nomination of BIPOC individuals of all gender identities and persons with disabilities. (We are equipped to respond to disability-related accommodation requests; if you or your nominee have questions, please get in touch with us at apprentice@commshakes.org)
