Explore the world of professional classical theater in Boston this summer!
The CSC Summer Academy Apprenticeship Program is an intensive summer training program for aspiring professionals – young adults, like you, who are actively pursuing a career in theatre. This year’s Apprenticeship Program runs from June 14 to August 20, 2010.
Apprentices experience the thrill of being part of Shakespeare on the Common, a production that plays to crowds of over 5,000 people every night. An annual tradition, the show is a free outdoor summer event that runs for two and a half weeks in the historic Boston Common. In addition, Apprentices take part in CSC’s outreach program -Tour of the Parks, performing around the Greater Boston area.
For ten weeks, Apprentices are immersed in CSC’s summer activities. You will participate in a series of skills-building classes four days a week and master classes led by guest artists. Apprentices have the opportunity to understudy for the mainstage production and to be on-stage with the touring production. Apprentices learn and work alongside the CSC’s technical and production staff and participate in the many operations of a working company – on-stage, back-stage, programmatic, and front-of-house.
Application: Applicants must submit a brief form, resume and headshot, one personal essay, two letters of recommendation, and a $30 application fee. Once your application has been reviewed, you may be asked to move to a second round, in-person audition. The audition requires two contrasting monologues, at least one by Shakespeare, to demonstrate your acting range. If you cannot attend the audition, you may submit an audition DVD with your application. The full application can be found here.
Cost: The cost for the Summer Apprenticeship is $1500
Financial Aid: CSC is limited in our ability to meet applicants’ demonstrated financial needs. Please contact our office to discuss the available options.
Room and Board: CSC will coordinate housing and meals for interested Apprentices. Costs range between $2500 and $4000 in Downtown campus dorm housing. We encourage applicants to explore local housing options. Housing in Boston is readily available over the summer but can be costly. You can find listings for off-campus housing online, in local newspapers, and by word of mouth. The city also has a dizzying array of affordable restaurants and local groceries if you prefer to eat out or make meals at home. Contact us with any questions and indicate your room and board preference on your application form.
Credit: CSC is part of the Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) program. College credit can be arranged through some academic institutions. Contact your registrar for more information.
