CSC is pleased to announce the next stage in training of the Summer Academy: “CSC2.” CSC2 is the next stage in development for emerging actors at Commonwealth Shakespeare Company. The focus for CSC2 actors is participation in the CSC’s summer production of Free Shakespeare on the Boston Common. CSC2 actors will be cast in ensemble and supporting roles as well as understudies for many of the principal roles of the 2014 production of Twelfth Night. This opportunity is paired with a training regimen in voice, movement and acting that builds on the strong fundamentals that these actors bring to the program and is complimented by masterclasses in special topics. In an effort to foster the development of young actors, CSC offers this program to accepted students free of tuition. In addition, each CSC2 actor will be offered a choice of free housing at the Babson campus, or a stipend.

This program is highly competitive and meant for actors that have finished an undergraduate theater training program (or comparable work) and are working as early-career professionals or are working towards their MFA. CSC Apprentice Program alumni are encouraged to audition. CSC will admit six CSC2 actors to this program in 2014.

As with all CSC summer activities, the CSC2 program will be held at the Babson College campus in Wellesley, MA. The program starts on June 23rd and ends August 10th.

Voice – The voice training at CSC2 is based in Linklater Technique and is intended to strengthen the actor’s vocal presence to be able to perform on the scale that Shakespeare and CSC’s outdoor productions demand. Work also applies to Linklater work to sound and movement.

Movement – Movement training is intended to develop the narrative capacity of the actor’s body. The focus is on improvisation and ensemble awareness.

Classical Monologue – This studio style class is guided by one of CSC’s professional faculty and will give each actor a chance to develop a Shakespearean scene and monologue over the course of the program
