Shakespeare & Leadership: King Lear
Carling-Sorenson Theater, Babson College, Wellesley
CSC2 is a young company of actors that works with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company on an extended basis. The ensemble is built of twelve, non-equity, early-career actors with some professional experience. CSC2 actors will work both as a cohort, learning from a diverse cast of their peers, and also alongside CSC’s professional company in a variety of productions. CSC Academy faculty will also occasionally work with CSC2 to help brush up on fundamentals and extend the learning from the rehearsal room. CSC2 candidates must have completed undergraduate level acting training or have comparable experience.
The actors of CSC2 will be cast in the following:
Romeo and Juliet at the Strand Theater – Rehearsals begin mid-March with performances from May 21 through May 30. This production will be performed by CSC2 and consist of six student matinees and two community performances. There will be 3 to 4 rehearsals per week.
King Lear on the Boston Common – Rehearsals begin mid-June with performances from July 22 through August 9. CSC2 will carry small and ensemble roles while understudying principle roles. Rehearsals will be scheduled Tuesday through Sunday. A daily call will be sent to all actors the night before.
Teaching Artists for CSC workshops in the Boston Public Schools – February through May. CSC2 actors will be paired with a CSC2 teaching artist to help run workshops in theater and English classrooms. These workshops can be scheduled with some flexibility.
Members of CSC2 may be offered roles in other CSC programming including “Shakespeare and Leadership,” “Shakespeare and the Law” and “Theater in the Rough,” February through May. For more information on these performances visit http://commshakes.org/
CSC2 actors will be engaged with the Company from March 1 - August 9, 2015. Each actor will be paid a stipend of $2,500 and may be awarded EMC points.
Auditions for the 2015 CSC2 troupe have passed. Please check this page for information about the 2016 program or email email@example.com for updated information.
