Nathaniel M. Gorton

Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk; Bishop of Carlisle; Groom.  Judge Gorton has served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts since 1992.  From 2001 to 2008, Judge Gorton served a seven-year term on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.  Prior to his appointment he was in private practice in Boston for 26 years, first at Nutter, McClennen & Fish, and then Powers & Hall, P.C. where he engaged in all phases of civil business litigation in federal and state courts in Massachusetts and several other states.  He was also General Counsel to his family seafood distribution business.  He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Columbia University Law School and served on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy in the western Pacific.  Judge Gorton’s Shakespeare and the Law credits include Trebonius in Julius Caesar, Lucio in Measure For Measure, the Duke of Burgundy and Oswald in King Lear, Roderigo in Othello and, most recently, Pistol in Henry V.  He is an active member of the Annisquam Village Players, having appeared in productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Kiss Me Kate (as Baptista) and Ruben in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  However, he is not yet ready to give up his daytime job.
